A great post. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The "proved" $8,000 in gold that Mr. Jackson was able to acquire with his primitive means, and then carry out at the (then) price of gold over rough terrain was certainly a tremendous challenge. As I recall Major Peeple was able to do a similar thing at Rich Hill; was it $7000 before breakfast and carved out of the ground with nothing more than a hunting knife?
