We have the same experiences. However, I have two Infiniums and both with the standard DD. I find no difference in performance.

I do believe in "Mods," and have heard great things re the 2000M.

With the stock 10x14 DD my Infinium failed to detect a 0.7 gram nugget at 6-inches in the overburden; however, a 2100 with 12x14 Coiltek no problem. The ground was alkali.

I hope the Ausie will do better toward smaller targets.

I believe what you refer to as "ironstone" in Australia is a laterite caprock? In the Cordillera we have the
"gossans." In both the gold is concentrated by the removal of soluable minerals.

My email address is jimstraig@earthlink.net. Please feel free to give me a shout if you have any info on the Mod for the Infinium USA.

So far our back and fourth posts have generated 6 emails directed to me with questions. (Yes, I run the cable straight up the wand and make a large cowboy loop with the extra and agree the illustrations in the ad brochure could be misleading as far as the "barber pole twists. I also don't think the 10x14 will normally hit a one-ounce nugget at 3-ft; but under some special conditions; a low mineralized area and an iron halo, perhaps--. I don't think the Ausie coil is waterproof. I use (prefer) alkaline batteries and never got the rechargeable setup so can't answer any question about the charger. It is possible to have an elecrical technician splice in an adapter so other headsets can be used if desired; however due to the limited straight section it looks awkward. I believe there is now an accessory coilcover being made for the 10x14; however, I made one out of plexiglass. The Ausie coil has a coilcover. I do not use any disc at all unless to clean up signal. The only areas that so far I have found of concern are the weathered basalt. Much of the Nevada epithermal gold areas where I hunt is actually electum.
