Howdy Wood, glad to see your post.

I couldn't resist answering your positive remarks regarding
the Compass Gold Scanner Pro. I bought one of the very first Scanner and Scanner Pro's that were manufactured by Compass. I sold the Scanner but kept the Pro.

As it was one of the first it has been modified over the years with the updates such as Monte von Berry's clip and
the bonus switches in back of the case. If you pull out the plug to the rear and peak inside you will see two small slide switches that are set for your particular area. I even
drilled a hole on the side of the case so as to access and
adjust the autotune threshold "pot" which is normally set at
the factory.

As anyone becomes familiar with the Scanners, particularily the Pro, the meter will become important. Out nuggetshooting
it can be used similar to the "analyzers" used on the White's Goldmaster series. But not to totally rely on, but just as an aide.

Actually, the Scanners are alive and well. Keith Wills is modifying the Scanners which can really enhance their performance.

I write this not to "sell" any Scanners out there; but to make some positive comments as "food for thought" for anyone that may have one sitting in a closet. Dust it off and use it.

Compass was a first with some of the inovations:- The DD was designed in about 1974(?) by one of the Compass Engineers, Don Dykstra. The wiring resembled two capital "D's" back to back. Thus the term "DD," (2-D, or Double D) for Don's initials and the inner configutation.

Also, Compass was a leader with "autotune" which some refer to as "self adjusting threshold."

George Paine and John Earle were involved with Compass as design engineers and Ron Mack the CEO. Both Mr. Paine and Mr. Earle are alive and well and still involved in the cutting edge in design. It was unfortunate that Compass suffered due to the warehouse fire. However, Steve Goss has persisted and kept Compass alive. It operates at a single fixed frequency of 13.77 which is a good choice for "mineralization/sensitivity/nugget-size and depth."

With a full range "trashout"(discrimination) mode I believe
Compass is now calling it a "relic" machine.

It has plenty of "gain/power/sensitivity." Too much for many areas. But once understood; particularily while using the 8-inch "DD" search coil---, or the six-inch ultralite---

I guess I said it all.
