Hah, hah... you are correct... many of todays detectorists do not care about "yesterday." To be on the cutting edge of success requires fully knowning whatever detector they have and believe in it and their ability to use it to advantage.

I vaguely(?) remember some of the flexing was due to the top piece of the search coil "lid" not rigid. The DD's due
to their design can be noisy if "bumped." Make sure the coil
cable is not moving and setting up a signal that is received by the search coil... One thing that bothered me was the short life of one of the 9-volt batteries... Maybe the improved rechargeables now available would be better.
