Howdy Bob, I cannot comment one way or another. I'm not into electronics. However, as a fellow ham operator we only use enough power "to make the trip."

Mineralization can be a funny thing. There are a lot of variables. The more I think I know, the less I find I actually know. I hope to see more information as to the benefit of "power" as to "depth," as this is how I learn.

About 25 years ago with my late kid brother, Tom, we did a shallow sub-surface traverse north of Pioche, Nevada, with a 1948 vintage Fisher tube-type two-box. Lots of high voltage (like 45 volts) used but limited to the tubes output-- they would "blow" if pushed above about 1.5 volt. Batteries were expensive--- one set, special order cost about $30 and short-lived. Today, I can make the same traverse--- and maybe even more "depth" with the latest "up-to-date" Fisher two-box with far-less battery "power" needs.

I still have an old White's Goldmaster, 1963 vintage. Lot of "power" needed to drive it (I have made up a battery pack of 7-each 9-volts in series to power it), but any inexpensive modern detector has much more "depth."

I hope to hear more about this power/depth thing. The battery for my 2200 was as big as a motor-cycle battery-- and I had three; two as backup. The Infinium uses a small non-rechargeable AA pack.

You mention the GB-1 and 17000; There is a difference in a AA battery pack viz three 9-volts. I have not used the WOT on my 17000; but in some areas of "less mineralization" I have effectively used the 14-inch with my GB-1.

I have not read Reg's post; however, he is most knowlegeable and I learn from him (We have both worked in steel mills and know the tough side of life. Another story for another time.)

Spent several hours baby-sitting great-grand daughter, Bella, today. Gold comes in many forms.
