Sorry Jim, I will be in the desert, but I will be walking around Quartzsite with my wife for a couple days. If I get a chance I might be able to detect an hour or two.
So far I have only ran my XT18000 with the 15" WOT in 6Khz as suggested by Doc. I was surprised at the small size of some of the lead I found, I was worried about losing the smaller pieces of Gold due to running in a low mode. 20Khz should pick up even smaller pieces with large coil.
Have only had it out once in the desert so not much of test, time will tell.
As far as a Salt mode switch, running in 6Khz with the sensitivity turned down will do as good as any switch since that is what a switch would do anyway. The XT18000 works great at the SoCal beaches, I usually run in 20K with a stock coil till I get close to or into the salt water then switch to 6K and turn down sensitivity, yes you will lose some depth, but smooths out considerably.
