Hello Steve,

Well this report is not for the guys that already own them, but rather the undecided that are thinking about a new detector purchase. I'm sure the guys that already own them, have made their own calls about them. As you can see, several are already on the E-bay auctions.

Another funny point, is that how the dealers stated they would sale for no less than $1,250 for some time, while now they are being sold on the internet for $1,000 to your door! I guess that was all hype, or to get suckers from the start. I guess the old statement, "You get what you pay for is really, true?"

I agree Steve, all discriminators are unaccurate, at least the ones that are on detectors today. However, if you go back and look at the early claims, not by Garrett, but others, you will surely see where I'm coming from. I guess if I have to, I will dig them all off the forums to state the truth. Claims stating "100% discrimination depth, Close or not equal to SD/GP depth right out of the box, accurate Tone ID and just as sensitive as the SD's!" I can go back and find all these statements, most of them made by one single Garrett dealer, that really "Hyped" this unit, and caused many to purchase a unit they are now very unhappy with! I have two personal friends, that relied on his "Hype," or BS, and now really feel taken on the deal!

Without a doubt, manufactures hype their products to get more sales, there are no two ways about it. However, when someone takes information that is not even from the manufacture to get sales, then that is really screwing the public. I know several guys that are considering using his internet information, and writing letters to Garrett.

Yes, I know your trying to make a point about the Minelab 3-4 times depth issue. I never claimed they go 3-4 times the depth, and stated several times just a simple inch makes some difference! I'm sure you seen this statement by me several times, so I never claimed the 3-4 times depth. However, Minelab was reluctant to tell us where they got that information, or how they achieved it. I believe if a VLF is using the same size searchcoil as the SD/GP, then the difference is only a few inches on smaller targets, while deeper targets at greater depths would only favor the SD/GP units.

I really liked where Garrett stated "to dig all targets when uncertain." That is their statement, saying they do not claim the discriminator is 100%. However, many others plastered false information before the release of the Infinium about 100% accurate discrimination, and this lead to many unhappy purchases.

Like always, I do not make a living selling detectors, so I will tell you how it is. There are no detectors, at least today, that will find all gold, and leave all the trash behind! That is the mentality of what people thought about the Garrett and its discrimination abilities. Guys thought they would use this new unit, run around, pick up all the big gold nuggets, while leaving all the iron trash behind. Yes, you would have to dig lead, brass and a few others, but iron trash is the bulk of what you find in most old placer workings.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from Steve, as I have always valued your opinion in the past.

I honestly believe, if you can spend you money, the SD/GP combination with Coiltek searchcoils is the best set-up for highly mineralized ground conditions, while searching for larger nuggets (1 Dwt and up). Without a doubt, the SD/GP can find smaller nuggets down to several grains in size.

On a lighter note, never rely on a discriminator, dig all targets when uncertain. Use the discrimination feature as a "general rule of thumb," as they are not 100% accurate by any means.

If you one of those guys, that are waiting on a "All Gold" detector, then you better live another 50-100 years. No one is going to dig all gold nuggets, while leaving the trash behind. I know for a fact, that is the mentality of many, as I personally seen it done in the past.

Well, we might not have gained any ground Steve, but hope you understand my points about early false claims. Furthermore, you never stated anything false, and I actually remember you stating that people should wait for Garrett's claims! See I remember your good deeds...

Hope you have a great day,

Rob Allison
