John, thank you ever so much. I now have a fan club, you! The common terrestrial minerals also found in meteorites not expensive.

I have bought small thumb-sized rocks and minerals from Minerals Unlimited in Ridgecrest since about 1970. They are about the best. Mostly mail-order but have an answering machine.Phone: 60-375-5279 and leave your email address and I'm sure they will get back to you. (I hope it is okay to give out their name and phone on this forum.)

I was once very much involved in rocks and minerals. Did a special project at Mackay by making 18 thin sections and identifying them with polarized microscope. Up to about 20 years ago I did consulting work for mining companies. The last time I went underground in an 'old mine' was in 1981. Some old-workings in volcanic country rock can now be dangerous, even if last worked only 20 or so years earlier.

Over the past 20 years I have been swinging a detector specializing in epithermal type mineralization associated with volcanics. The placer--- how it it ever get here!--- is out there. Research! Just one "off the cuff" statement made by the turn of the century engineer in an old paper may be the clue.
