There was a nice bunch in the Spokane area headed by Lucy: Jack Satkowski, Joanne Shawgo, Kristine and Jack Bonewell, Joe Holiday, Jerry Buckles, Jim Whipple, Cliff Snow and Margaret O'Conner. Then there were several from the east coast and even Arizona.

I was with three others from S. California and we were known as the "California group" and I think the cabin we stayed in may have been named the "Californian" after us. Confidentually, I think the Washington group looked at us Californians as "tenderfeet," or whatever they are called in Alaska.

I enjoyed being 'kicked back' on the bank just watching the others. I enjoyed meeting people such as Yvonne Newman who I believe is Paul Newman's sister. Yvonne was very knowledgeable regarding the local prospecting scene and could really make panning pay--- I think she is one of the best ever as she could read the bank and hit the pockets.

Ray Thompson from Arizona was really pulling them out of the old bank channel with his detector and pan. He found over 63 small ones in one day.

All of this is now 11-years ago right now. It is not the gold that is in my memory--- I found the least gold of all. However, gold comes in many forms; just being out in the valley where Rue creek joined Burch creek and to dip a cup into the ice water and observe all that was happening, the critters, and fellow detectorists all sharing the same countyside.

My memory is a 360% panorama of the whole "Paradise" valley; looking up at Pinicale (peak) mountain, the rustic cabins in the trees, watching the garden Cec planted grow before my very eyes in the long daylight, listening to Mick and all of his great stories, watching the others talking, laughing, and sharing good times--- the comradie; not just a dig-hole in the bank.
