Hi Ralph,

How about "Discrimination for Pulse Induction is still in it's infancy and for now Induction Balance detectors offer much more advanced information about the probable identity of the target."

It still seems to me that IB detectors have more information to work with, especially with the advent of multifrequency units. Or is it that the information they have to work with is just easier to interpret?

So far PI units are lucky to differentiate shallow iron targets, and even that ability is nothing to get excited about.

But I sure do agree that it would seem the big news to come will be from PI. It reminds me of where IB technology was when the first ground balancing VLF units appeared. Great depth of detection, loves iron, little or no discrimination, and poor sensitivity to small items. Now IB units can hit flakes of gold weighing 1/20th of a grains, and provide remarkably accurate id and depth information for coin hunting.

I feel it's been the lack of competition that has held PI back. Minelab has done wonderful things with PI, but let's face it, they can't think of everything. The more minds and money at work on the issues facing PI the better, and hopefully that is finally happening.
