Subject: Hot Shot coil for Goldmasters

One of the last topics under discussion before the old Forum "lit a shuck" (disappeared for parts unknown) was the hoped-for new coil(s) for the Goldmaster Series from Jimmy Sierra. Jimmy has now released a wonderful new coil called the "Hot Shot." It is 12 inches in diameter, very thin, open-centered for easier pinpointing, of a special internal design which offers the depth of a concentric coil with the stability of a DD, and only weighs about an ounce more than the standard White's elliptical coil. It's weight makes it a joy to swing. I ran very comprehensive in-ground tests with my GMT, in the Mojave Desert, comparing the Hot Shot with the White's DD coil. I found that the Hot Shot got sub-grain nuggets with no problem (yeah, no foolin'!) and got 30% more depth on "Mojave Midgets" (nuggets 4 grains or less in weight) and 37% more depth on nuggets weighing over a pennyweight. Thus, on the average, the Hot Shot, at the same power settings, under the same conditions, gets an overall average of about 1/3 MORE depth than the standard White's DD. Naturally, it's larger size makes it a bit difficult to use in very brushy or rocky locales, but in more open areas, where the nuggets are known to be deep, it will really help make "worked out" sites productive again. The Hot Shot retails for $199.95. Since getting mine, and, also the new Hot Foot coil from Jimmy Sierra (more on the Hot Foot in a future posting) my standard DD has been retired. HH Jim
