learn to roll -- RG1, 06:41:18 01/23/09 Fri

There is a 4 session pool class at the Jersey Shore High School Saturday & Sunday Feb 21-22 and Feb 28- March 1. Saturdays are 9:30 to noon, Sundays are 12:30 to 3:00 The class is part of the JS continuing ed program. Last year the fee was $65 per person, less for JSSD residents.
Boats etc will be provided if needed. It is ok to bring your own boat, but you MUST pull out the airbags, etc and vacuum out the boat, and wash off any mud, grime etc before you bring it to the pool. Boats have to be inspected before they go in the water.
You can contact me at russ@wildnet.com or 443-413-2009 for general class info. I cannot register you.
You must contact John Wilt at JWilt@jsasd.k12.pa.us to register or confirm cost. The fee is paid to the school district. If you check the cost of pool sessions you will find that this is cheap.

im thinking of parking my canoe ( $350 dollar value) 24 hours during the summer

on the canoe rack at the city park in Pittsburgh,Pa

1) have you heard of any getting stolen and/or do you think this is a good or bad idea+++ or do you have any ideas on the best way to secure a canoe to the rack in the park-- there is space for 8 canoes but ive only seen the same beat up canoe there all summer

2) what is the best way to secure them to the rack
---im thinking two separate thick aircraft cables with two quality locks or do you think those bicycle locks are better or ?????

A few questions on the put in at Shawville. We are planning a late afternoon arrival at the put in and want to know if there is creek side camping allowed at the put in or will we have to paddle down river a bit? If we have to paddle a ways to the campsite about how far would we have to go and on which side of the river is it? Also, is the water potable after first filtering it?
And for Linda Mc. I had contacted you a few weeks ago about doing our shuttle. Do you have any river maps showing the river characteristics, such as the rapids, campsites, etc. etc. Thanks, Tony

Touring Kayak on W. B. Susq.? -- Bill Peters, 13:42:33 09/09/02 Mon

What is the most appropriate type of kayak (at various water levels, which gauge?) for the W.B. Susquehanna - say between Clearfield and Karthaus? I am planning to visit my sister in Philipsburg and am wondering if there is any reason I should bring along my CLC Chesapeake18 (18' touring kayak) or should I just plan on renting something more appropriate in the area? Any other flat water recomendations for the area?

Endless Mt. Downriver Canoe Race -- Linda Volpe, 10:08:38 08/09/02 Fri

What a race! My congrats to the sponsors and workers for this event. The only thing I thought didn't co-operate was the water itself. No current...just water to paddle in.
Lots of water for a LONG time. It was 11.9 miles from start to finish. Anyone that can paddle should do this one just to see how they can endure.
Met new kayakers and canoers and that's always a treat.

I took me (by Kayak) starting in Owego NY one to go to
Towanda, next day Vosburg, next day Nanticoke, next day
Bloomsburg, Next day about 5hours to Sunbury. about 5 days
Be sure to have padded gloves to prevent blisters!

sorry i missed the last meeting.
brownie and son tim and fritz and i are heading down to rolling stone at 10:00 saturday; we will pick out 2 spots for the poker run part of the race (put markers near the rr tracks and the river).
camp site is near moshannon falls--i hope someone is there
before us--i am not 100% on where its at. keep an eye out
for 2 alluminum barges with too much gear.

May 11, 2002 Starts at Rolling Stone Bridge 11:00 am
Finish at Karthaus, Pa Launch site 11 miles in length
Entry fee $10.00 + $5.00 ACA event sanctioning fee
OC-1 OC-2 long OC-2 short Kayak short under 14'
Kayak long over 14'
