I wanted to send you an update about Tessa. She has all kinds of new stuff going on, I took her to the Spina Bifida clinic on the 15th and got all kinds of unsettling news.....
she needs surgery on her left hip to put it back in the socket and they are also going to release muscles in her right thigh because they are too tight and take muscle from her butt and stomach on the left side and put it on the hip. She will have a metal plate and screws in her left hip. The doctor said those will probably stay in but if they cause a problem they will have to go back in and take them out. She also said that sometimes the hip pops out again after a while and then they do not put it back in again, since the muscles will be released that alleviates the pulling on the right side, and they are going to release the muscle on her left ankle and acheales(sp?) tendon at the same time. she will be in a cast like she was in when she broke her leg except that it will be all the way down both legs this time, she will be in that for 4-6 weeks. The surgery takes at least 5 hours and she will be in the hospital for at least 2 days. They are going to give me a special harness for in the car and some kind of wheelchair to use while she is in the cast, she cannot sit normal in a car seat , chair etc.........the diapers have to be tucked up etc.....she will need extra care.
ALSO her urologist wants me to catheterize her daily now, it will be a daily thing from now on.....he also put her on another prescription to expand her bladder so she will hold more and not pee little bits at a time.
What else......oh she goes on the 6th for her renal scan and a cat scan of her brain and spine, they are going to put her under anesthesia this time with a pediatric anesthesiologist so we don't have the trouble we did last time with her not being able to breathe, she will be intibated this time..Her surgery is scheduled for the 14th of this month, as long as she isn't sick .
Poor little thing has no idea all of this is going on :(
