Subject: John Fripp's daughters Sarah & Mary Julia

A John Fripp's daughter Sarah Elizabeth was engaged to Dr. Charles Tennent (descendant of Landgrave Thos. Smith), but Sarah died of malaria just before their wedding. He was broken-hearted and wrote a very long and very bad poem, which was inscribed on her tombstone at St. John's Church on Edisto Island (I think: I visited both Fripp and Edisto on the same trip in 1989). He then asked for the younger daughter,Mary Julia's, hand, but she was only 12 so he had to wait until she was 16 (and he 32). They moved to Parnassus Plantation in Berkeley Co SC, where they raised 10 children.

My aunt and my sister are named Mary Julia after this Fripp ancestor. I have a collection of family letters, including one from John Fripp to Mary "Julia" following the Civil War, in which he sends her "only" $10 because he has borrowed money from both his sons and they, too, are struggling to survive Reconstruction. He died just days after the letter.

I was really touched by this family. Any idea where this John Fripp fits into the tree?

Great site, Bean, Thanks. Anne

Thanks for your interesting notes.
This area of the tree is currently being investigated and will be updated on the Website in a few weeks (hopefully).

Mary Julia's parents were John Archibald Fripp (1794 - 1870) and Mary Eddings b.1807. They married 12 Feb 1822 on Edisto Island, SC. You can follow John's ancestry on my Website. His direct link is at: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bean95/ft/frippus/pafg79.htm#2296

Thanks for your comments. I will write to you separately for more details.

Dave
