Subject: New record Sucks and i'm pissed

it's really really awful. and let me state a disclaimer. i don't care about SELLING OUT, i could care less if she becomes a big star i don't care who produced her. so that's not where this criticism comes from. (and i really enjoy all of her previous albums, not just Guyville)

HOWEVER, i do like good music.

And her new CD is BAD, HORRIBLE music and i'm pissed that i even bought it. the lyrics are totally immature and predictable (except Firewalker, which has great lyrics), the production just makes the songs sound so lame. the song writing just isn't there in this album. i'm looking forward for the next one.

just had to vent. am very disapointed. BOOOOO.

Have you listened to the Internet-only EP yet??
Its way way better and buying the cd to hear those 5 songs is totally worth it. plus i really love bionic eyes.

no i havn't listened to those songs yet. i'm hoping they will be better....
ug, i just can't beleive how bad this record is. it's totally vapid if you ask me. oh well, we all make mistakes...and as far as i can tell this thing hasn't even recieved any kind of even luke-warm review...
if you're going to be avril (which sux in the first place) at least write catchy songs. as this point, liz is just an avril immitator which is really sad...and she does a very poor impression at that...ug, more venting...

i agree. i liked all her stuff before this cd and it is so disappointing. nothing is worse than selling out and then not having a hit, which is what i am predicting. i am hoping that she has another chance to do one more good album tough.

i would love to like the album. problem is IT BLOWS.
i can accept Liz has changed. unfortunately her song writing is weak on this album.
you may not agree, if that is the case, argue why you think it's good, don't just tell me to "quit crying"

I agree that the lyrics to Firewalker are great. And the theme of Firewalker is partially why I'm able to appreciate the new album. It does lacks the feel of the first two Liz Phair albums that made me a fan in the first place. But she's going to grow and change, and should not be criticized for trying something different. There is some good stuff in the new album.

This is what makes me so mad about the new album: if you criticize it, people assume you can't handle that she's changed.

sorry, Tim, i love artists that change and grow, i mean what else can you do? i just think the album sucks both musically and lyrically.

i wish she tried something different that was *GOOD*

As another self-employed individual, I can understand that she wants to "...sell some records, goddammit", but I have to agree with Liv, putting out crap (and from what I have heard so far, it is crap) AND disappointing long-time fans is not the way to do it. Now, she'll find herself in an even more difficult hole to climb out of...no sales, no hit, and no respect from either the pop establishment OR the indie-types. Too bad she didn't learn more from Sheryl Crowe...Of course, she could put out the album the studio said was "gold-ish" tommorow and I would buy it. So if anyone from the label is reading this, let lp know she still has "fan equity" or whatever slime-ball suit term you guys use for loyalty.

i love this album, i don't know how you could call it "not catchy". i hardly ever listen to stuff this big and polished (and for the record i don't think Avril's all that bad), but this is really punchy, fun, well-written pop music.

even the songs that were co-written w/ the Matrix have some sharp lyrics. especially "Rock Me" - yeah, the chorus has been used a thousand times all over the world... but the rest of the song, that's so Liz. "Your record collection don't exist, you don't even know who Liz Phair is"... lmao

"Favorite", musically, could be a Leanne Rimes track i think, but lyrically it's got her stamp all over it. i think it should be the next single. (cuz you know HWC will never get any airplay ;))

the only song i could live without is "Good Love Never Dies". its just boring. and the chorus reminds me of some old Stop 'n Shop commercial... "keep you coming back"... yeah whatever.

but but but........... i can't believe she changed "Love/Hate TRANSMISSION" as much as she did!! the original version was so cool :( and it had the greatest title.

and oh yeah, Johnnyrock, that's exactly what i thought would happen - no sales, no hit, and no respect - but i like this album so i really don't care. i think once people get over the initial SHOCK of Liz sounding poppy or (gasp!) like Avril L., they'll see - without any comparsions to Guyville please - that its not a bad pop album
