Subject: How to tell if he likes me....

Okay...so I am getting really desperate...i like a guy in 2 of my classes...but i no who he likes...but he likes another person also whose in one of our classes..ive named all the girls except me and he has said no to all of them..i want to know for sure if he likes me...sometimes it seems like he does..other times it seems like he doesnt...he will flirt and we will talk for hours but than other times i dnt talk to him for weeks...at a dance we had danced and afterwards he stood there smiling at me for about 3 seconds...i felt so good...but i dnt no if he likes me for sure..my sister said she would ask him...but than i would have to face him for the next year...it would be awkward...so should i ask him or should i just leave it and hope something happens....please help!!!
