Subject: Not that I'm voting for Gore but...

So George W. Bush comes out at the convention stating over and over again "This administration (Clinton/Gore) had its moment. They had their chance. They have not led. We will!"...
Well George, why the F#@% should I believe you will do something you haven't done as Governor of Texas?

These are some of Bush's administrative rankings for the state of Texas out of all 50 states:

The Education Governor?
Teacher salaries at beginning of 1st term - 36th
Teacher salaries at beginning of 2nd term - 38th
Teacher salaries plus benefits - 50th
High school completion rate - 46th
Public libraries and branches - 46th

The Compassionate Governor?
# of children living in poverty - 2nd
% of children without health insurance - 1st
% of poor working parents without insurance - 1st
% of population without health insurance - 2nd
Teen Birth Rate - 5th
Mothers receiving prenatal care - 45th

The Environmental Governor?
Pollution released by manufacturing plants - 1st
Pollution by industrial plants in violation of Clean Air Act - 1st
Spending for the environment - 49th
Spending for parks and recreation - 48th
Quality of place to raise children - 48th

Note on teen drug use: It's down nationally... It's up in Texas!

Sources:
National Education Agency
U.S. Department of Education Office of Educational Research and Development
U.S. Bureau of Census, Current Populations Trends
U.S. Dept. Health and Human Services National Center for Health Statistics
1998 Texas School Survey of Substance Use Among Students Grades 7-12
Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse
U.S. EPA, Office of Pollution and Prevention
Children's Rights Council

And let's not forget what he said after the press hounded him about the fact that Texas executes more people each year than most other states combined. It was right after another state's Governor (I forget which one right now) halted all executions there, because he had evidence which showed that innocent people were being killed. Bush's response was that he was positive no innocent person had been put to death under his administration. I suppose they all admitted their guilt then, because that's the ONLY way you could be "positive" Mr. Bush!
