Subject: The Senator from Connecticut.

Have you been paying attention to the VP democratic candidate? If you have then you may have picked up
on the double standard being applied to him as of late by the media. Here's what I'm talking about...
Senator Joseph Lieberman has stated that "Without the connection to a higher law, we have made it more
and more difficult for people to answer the question why it is wrong to steal, to cheat, to lie, to settle
conflicts with violence, to be unfaithful to one’s spouse, or to exploit children. We have too often deprived
our public life of the best source of better behavior that the human race has --faith in God, and the sense of
personal accountability and responsibility that goes with it."
While one may agree or disagree with the man, one has to recognize the hypocrisy inherent in the media's
treatment of the democratic party here. If this had been a Catholic Republican candidate making a similar
statement, he would have been berated and maligned by the popular press and allusions to the so termed
"separation of church and state" would have echoed through the country, prompting negative headlines and
heated debate.
The Democrats are usually the first ones to start barking about how religion has no place in politics, yet they
seem to take a contrary view of the matter where their own candidates are concerned.
I could go on about my personal regard for spiritual or religious statements in the political arena, but I won't.
My opinions about any candidate's theological contentions is not the point. The fact of the matter is that
the Constitution simply states that the government may not endorse any one religious practice over another.
It does not speak to individuals within government voicing their own religious opinions.
Be that as it may, I find it disquieting that Mr. Lieberman is not held to the same standards as others have
been (for right or wrong) in the past. There's a clear double standard here, and it needs to be addressed.
