Hollywood, Ca, April 2nd, 2002: IndieProducer.tv launches its’ First Annual Screenwriting Contest, entitled IP 2002 on May 5th, 2002. Aside from $3,500 in cash prizes, and a stellar contingent of industry Professionals as Judges, including: Martin Brown (Producer of ‘Moulin Rouge’), Stephen J. Rivele (Academy Award nominated Screenwriter of ‘Nixon’ and ‘Ali’), Allison Burnett (Screenwriter of Autumn in NY), Tom Huckabee (Producer of ‘Frailty’), Clark Peterson (Producer of ‘The Watcher’), Michel Zgarka (Moderator and Organizer of the Montreal Film Festival), Kimberly Fox (Kathy Morgan International), Ami Vitori (V.P. of Development, Schutt-Jones Production), and Jodi Broitman (V.P. Development, at Canal+) – IP 2002 is singularly unique for its’ star prizes…

The Winning Screenplay will receive a staged reading, cast by Valerie McCaffrey (former VP of Casting, Newline Cinema), at the prestigious WGA Theater in Beverly Hills, in front of 500 top industry Players. This will take place on October 15, 2002. This staged reading will be the focal point of the IP 2002, Gala Event, “THE FIRST ANNUAL JOSEPHINE AWARDS” Ceremony. On that night, the First, Second, and Third Place Winning Screenwriters will each be presented with their prize money, and a “JOSEPHINE AWARD” for Screenwriting Excellence.

Named after Tony Curtis’s alter-ego, Josephine, in ‘Some Like It Hot,’ and in loving memory of the late, great Billy Wilder – each Josephine Award stands 11” tall, cast in bronze, and comes in a special Presentation Box.

The Josephine Awards will be broadcast live on the IndieProducer web site, and to add further accolade, the Winning Screenplay will also receive a development deal with Los Angeles based 24Seven Pictures.

IP 2002 will be a world wide invitation to aspiring writers. Regardless of experience, or location, any Writer can compete, with the chance of having their script optioned by a Production Company. It is our intention to guide the Winning Writer through the various stages necessary to present their screenplay to Major Hollywood Studios.

Founded by industry veterans, David Basulto and Kerry David, the ultimate goal of IP2002 is to discover new talent, benefit writers across the globe and in years to come provide a scholarship grant that can be handed over to the recipients of forthcoming Josephine Awards.

Most recently Kerry David has set up a $20 million feature with MGM currently titled “Cody Banks” and starring Frankie Muniz and Hillary Duff. David Basulto most recently produced the indie “Wish you were dead” which he produced in association with Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions and Newmarket Capital.
