Subject: Cliches

I posed this question in my writing journal and a friend challenged me to ask this question so here goes. Why must there always be cliches in TC shows? Not only plots, but even in speech is the viewing public that brain-damaged that they cannot grasp a new concept?

It doesn't matter if it is humor, drama, or a thriller the same cliches are used over and over. Is there a pattern to writing a script which they follow, like one you would be to make a dress? I watch TV and there are some things I enjoy, but I also listen t TV, Movies and in my reading to see how people use dialog and or action to move the plot. It seems like the same tired whitewash of all the old shows rehashed into newer characters with the same motivations.

Example:

A classic TV family. Two girls, one is bright but moody. The other quite vain and pretty, but lacks simple intelligence.

Is it 8 simple rules...or Roseann?

Just wondering,
Triston
