I have a 1999 yellow beetle. I had the same problem. I wanted a CD player but didn't want to change the look of my beetle's dash. I was told that beetle's are programmed only to work with Panasonics. In fact Circuit City told me the same thing. I got an 8 disc Panasonic changer from Circuit City over a year ago and it works great. I think it was around $200 for the changer and the total ended up around $300 after installation. That sure beat the price of $500-600 for a disc changer from my dealer.
