No you're not ignorant - the fact you didn't know about it perfectly illustrates the extent to which he does hide it. As I said below, just watch ANY random episode of friends and he constantly covers it up -it's a shame he feels he has to, but that's hollywood I guess. For them, it's what is on the outside that counts and the inside is unchartered territory.
