There was a little girl
who lived not far away
she had not done anything wrong
but still she had to pay
no one understood her,
for she was only eight
one so young and fragile
should never have to deal with hate
her life was just like quicksand,
and deeper and deeper she sunk
for mommy didn't care for her
and daddy was a drunk
one that is so innocent
should not have to live a life of hell
they beat her till her arms were bruised
and warned her not to tell
she thought her life was hopeless
and her mind was filled with doubt
so she got down on her knees at night
and prayed for a way out
one day when she came home
from school and went through her front door
her daddy grabbed her by the hair
and slammed her to the floor
when he reached into his dresser drawer
the little girl had known,
that he would soon pull out a gun
so she cried "Please, daddy, no!"
Her daddy just ignored her as
he loaded up the gun
and though the girl was frightened
she had refused to run,
Instead she got to her feet proudly
and she held her head up high,
she decided she'd get a word in
if today she was to die
"I know that I'm not perfect
and I'm sure I'll never be,
but I have tried to very hard
to make you and mommy see
I know you do not love me
near as much as you love beer,
but if it weren't for you and mommy
then I know I'd not be here
Even if you kill me,
and no matter what you do,
I want to let you know right now
that I'll always love you"
Her father stopped dead in his tracks
and formed a little frown
a single tear slid down his cheek
as he put the gun back down
he looked down at the little girl
whose eyes were filled with worry,
His head hung down in guilt
as he then said to her, "I'm sorry"
As he turned away the little girl
saw something in him that was new,
and she was struck by deep surprise
as he said, "I've always loved you too"
