Restorationists who believe in the words of Jesus Christ and in the Book of Mormon believe the following:

John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I Nephi chapter 2 (Lehi speaking)

63 And I also beheld a straight and narrow path, which came along by the rod of iron, even to the tree by which I stood;
64 And it also led by the head of the fountain unto a large and spacious field, as if it had been a world;
65 And I saw numberless concourses of people, many of whom were pressing forward, that they might obtain the path which led unto the tree by which I stood.
66 And it came to pass that they did come forth and commence in the path which led to the tree.
67 And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceeding great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost.
68 And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron;
69 And they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree.

I Nephi chapter 3 (Nephi speaking)

68 And it came to pass that I beheld that the rod of iron, which my father had seen, was the word of God, which led to the fountain of living waters, or to the tree of life; which waters are a representation of the love of God;
69 And I also beheld that the tree of life was a representation of the love of God.

RLDS/CoC position
THE NATURE OF THE CHURCH, First Presidency Meetings, January 9, 1979, 10:30 a.m. pages 8-9
(The Presidential Papers)

"A New Age
Most of us have lived through one of the major pivotal changes in human history. We were born into and expressed our early ministry in the age of modernity. This period in history was built upon the dynamic interrelatedness of (1) the turning away from the authority of the past, (2) the shrinking of the realm of the sacred, and (3) the radical quest for total knowledge of the universe and the self. That epoch of history has passed and the church is called into a new country where the landscape is strange and road maps have not even been printed. In fact, there are no roads, but dim paths are beginning to appear.
The church’s commitment to stand in the human situation as witnesses of the gospel will shape its ministry to meet the emerging needs of the new age. . ."

"The redemptive quality which comes through sensing one’s place in history and identifying with the ongoing purpose of God in the future helps to define the nature of the church in the new age. . . ."

"The needs of persons in the new age are causing a return to the symbolic and mystical modes of thought because modernity has painted the world in identical shades gray—grayer and grayest."

---------------------------------------------------------

In the above from the Presidential Papers we see that the CoC admits that they don't know where they are going. They say, "In fact, there are no roads, but dim paths are beginning to appear."

This is a very sad commentary on them. They chose to wander in the wilderness rather than hold to the rod of iron which is the gospel. They have refused to let the Holy Ghost work in their lives and God will not always strive with a people who reject His precepts.
