I am engaged in an effort at the grassroots level to get the word out about Merkel Cell Cancer.

We are a group of 79 Merkel Cell Cancer survivors, there are very few of us, yet the incidence of MCC is increasing each year. In the past 400-600 cases of MCC were seen each year. It is estimated that this will soon increase to 1,000 each year. Many doctors and even dermatologist often do not recognize Merkel Cell Cancer. We need your help to get the word out.

A few more weeks and this individual, a member of the merkel cell cancer discussion group, would not be alive to discuss this moment in time. Here is a candid comment from this member about living with this cancer.

" I am on a constant emotional roller-coaster. Its been three years and I know I am so lucky, so blessed to have had some fine doctors... But just think of what would of happen if I had waited just a few more weeks to get to another doctor. I would surely be dead. It is great to see so many persons on the group, victims and support givers and I know a few of the doctors as well. I am still waiting to see that person who says, hey I had MCC years ago and I am still hear. I would like to see someone 8 or 10 years without a recurrence. I guess that is my fear, this is the fear we are all facing. That it is going to come back and get us." RTR, Member of the Merkel Cell Cancer discussion group.
