I have thought long and hard before posting this but I can't seem to get any satisfaction any other way. I have dealt with Kim a lot over the last couple years buying second hand items and she has been great so I would have NEVER imagined that this would have happened to us.
At the end of June '01, I asked Kim to design and make us a gown to which she agreed. I was to send her a white short skirt that she previously made to be dyed to match the gown, which I sent the middle of July. On August 6th I had finished paying for 50% of the dress. I then had to wait 6 weeks to receive my designs!!(finally came 9/12/01). On October 9th, my daughter's dress hadn't been started yet! Promised dress would be ready for Nov. 24th. On Nov. 19th, I was told she didn't have all the stones for my daughter's dress, dress wouldn't be ready in time. She would make my daughter a crowning dress in return for the delay.
We had another pageant planned for Dec. 7th. On Nov. 27th, she said she would do her best but was coming to our area in Jan. around 12th or 13th and what I thought about her bringing it then for a fitting. I said that I had to have it by the 7th (mind you.. We are already 5 months into this) Can you guess? December 7th and no gown! E-mails me and promises the new gown and crowning dress will be at my house by Christmas. Well, Christmas came and went and nothing.
We had a pageant scheduled for Jan. 12th I told her the gown had to be there for. We didn't have a dress to wear and I had found what I would call a state level dress in the meantime for her to wear " just in case". Well, 2 days before the pageant I am calling in a panic about the gown. The day before the pageant I called and left a message for
her to please overnight it to the hotel. Well, the morning of the competition, my daughter is dressed with about 5 minutes left to go before going on stage when the director knocks on my door with a fed ex box. YEAH! My daughter's new gown! Only, come to find out, it is the unfinished bodice and the short skirt I sent back to be dyed with a note in it saying "Please send bodice back so I can finish it after the pageant."(WHAT??? We are now 6 1/2 months into this gown). Well, my daughter refused to change because it wasn't the gown she was hoping for. Come to find out, she tried it on after competition and the bodice was too big in the bust and shoulders. I took pictures of her in it, and overnighted the pictures and the bodice back on Jan. 16th, 2002 so she could alter it. Told me bodice and long skirt would be back to me in one weeks time. I informed her we had a national planned for March 2nd. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER around Feb. 28th, I receive a fed ex box. I opened only to find the bodice untouched with a note that states " I am sending the dress top back to you. I did not take it apart-it would have ruined it. I am sending you $150 back for the long skirt. I sent stones and large brooch stones for you and a zipper as well.(Am I supposed to know how to put one in ???) It is all I can do around here to keep myself going and I don't have the time or energy to do much more. I had the best intentions and I am soooo sorry. I am not sewing pageant clothes any more. " Kim
I was frantic and upset. Called and she told me she would call me right back. She e-mailed me and said she knew I was upset about the dress and would refund me an additional $150. Well, that was on March 4th!! It is now, May 23rd and I have a short dress that was supposed to be a gown that is too big in the bodice and too short in the skirt. My daughter got marked off for fit at the one pageant we wore it to. I have spent the last 11 months over this gown and MY DAUGHTER has been the one to SUFFER DUE TO THE PERSONAL PROBLEMS OF THE DESIGNER/SEAMSTRESS preventing her from completing the job she agreed to do. I am out $1050 (which is not easy to come by), no crowning dress, A LOT OF BROKEN PROMISES: She won't respond to my e-mail or IM's, won't make the dress right, won't send money back and the next step is MY LAWYER if I don't hear back from you to get this resolved QUICKLY!! I am sorry it has to come to this, but, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!!
