Cookie Dough for Cutouts

Preheat oven to 400º

1 cup crisco shortening
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
4 tbls milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda

In a bowl cut shortening into flour as if making pie crust. Add salt. In second bowl, combine eggs and sugar; beat well. Add milk and vanilla; then baking soda. Add wet mixture into dry mixture a bit at a time and mix just until you can form a ball. Roll out to 1/2 thick, thinner will make the cookies crispy and they may break.
Cut into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Cookies will not stick to parchment paper. Do not use wax paper.
Bake for 7-9 minutes or just until barely golden around edges. Remove to wire racks to cool. Then frost and decorate.

FROSTING

1/3 cup butter, softened (gram insisted on butter only)
4 cups confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 - 3 tbls milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

In large bowl, cream butter then add remaining ingredients. Beat until frosting is smooth and spreadable. (divide the frosting into a few bowls to make different colors like green and red for christmas with food coloring) Frost then decorate with colored sugars.

Caution: parchment paper will slide easily from cookie sheet so be sure and hold pan securely before and after baking.
