Author: Aryes and Keetron
Subject: The old wolf shuffles along, her pale blue eyes glazed as if her vision, too, is gone. [Come, come, read if you wish a wonder!]

A number of small creatures nest in the long fur on her back, dark colors mingling in the gray and silver of age. One creature, a pale yellow one with bubbling blue eyes, the same color as his mistress's, sits confidently on the flat of her head between her constantly moving ears. His ears move also, as if in concert with the elder. Suddenly he bends his head over to chitter wildly in her face, an array of small fangs glinting as he speaks. She listens to him patiently, plodding along until she comes to a cleared area where she sinks down to the ground.

"Yes, Keetron, yes. But we can't keep them. Your family is large, even without you having coupled." Her voice screeches and shakes slightly, with age mostly. "We will eat when we can and when there's time. Now is not the time."

The wrinkles gracing her nose deepen as she sniffs the air.

"Ah...customers." She stands, strength coursing through her as she looks around at the wolves she can see. "Keetron, loosen your hold. If ever it is not the time to strangle me, it would be now."

Up for bargaining.
The marbolelones, a newly discovered species of predator.

Species: Marbolelones
Life expectancy: 20-30 years. More, if it's well taken care of.
Size: Largest is one foot, maybe one and a half and the smallest is six inches. (Only from head to toe.)
History: Marbolelones were an evolutionary turn in the charts. Dragons and mythicals and gryphons may have come before, but marbolelones hit the world with a boom that rocked their little forest. Where did they come from? What creatures were they born from? From what species did their DNA come? Even without the questions answers, these questions that would boggle scientists if ever this new species of animal was found by clumsy-handed humans, marbolelones soon proved to be vicious and quickly reproducing. In less than two years after their first sightings by local forest animals, they had established a few dozen families and were soon growing. Half a year later a family was forced out of the forest to find a new place to live, starting the process again in a new forest. Four years later, marbolelones all over were forced to slow down and ended up with each family having only one litter a year, and sometimes a family would skip a year or two. The marbolelones had started to enjoy life.
Habits and that entire pleasantry: A family consists of the coupling female and male, whatever kits born that year, and vagabonds of the area. Occasionally kits will become too dependent on their parents and will leave the family not even after they have found a mate. Because of this, families can grow to be quite large and even protective of one another. Kits can be pampered and even spoiled, because couplings can only have one kit at a time. A kit is considered adults around the age of two, and is forced away from its parents by other present adults. If the kit returns, then it is forced away again. On the tenth time it returns the adults give up and leave the kit alone to be scolded lightly but its relieved parents. After the initial forcing, a kit will look for another to couple to. A kit will choose a mate from any family, and usually the mate is of the same generation. Oddly enough, it helps if both have a similar marking. Superstition and what not. After getting to know each other for a year or two, the couplings will then proceed to try for a kit. A female has to be three before she can become pregnant, and a male has to be four. The first kit will often be weak, small, or insignificant in some other way, depending on the love or attraction the parents feel for each other during the coupling and the atmosphere at the time. Truthfully, the most important part to a coupling are the mates themselves. Marbolelones can spend their entire life looking for the right mate, or having found a mate, the coupling can spend their entire lives just enjoying each other's company. Strangely enough, they do not feel the same need to produce and grow as other animals, and they do not feel the same need for love as the more intellectual species do. They just live. They enjoy.

Taming: When training a marbolelone, there must be respect between the tamer and the pet. A human can never hope to accomplish the taming, because the marbolelone only feels respect for true meat-eaters, predators. Marbolelones are predators themselves, feeding on small rodents and unsuspecting birds in the wild, and so are naturally disdainful of those who eat greens. The taming and eventual training is simple. If the marbolelone feels respect, it is then the tamer's job to teach it to obey. The usual commands of "sit" "stay" and "fetch" won't usually work. Actually, only a truly unbalanced marbolelone would even think of obeying such commands. Commands are often silent and when they are not, the marbolelone must be treated as a being of equal intellectual understanding. An insulted marbolelone is not a pretty sight.

Personality: Marbolelones all have a general personality. They are intelligent and self-providing; after a while every need its tamer or owner has, is its need. They are also very mischievous, and are fond of doing little "errands" for its owner, especially if there's a working relationship. In the wild females are the leaders of the families, so a female pet would be naturally more inclined to turn the roles of owner and pet around. Males are gentler and more willing to play the part of the pet.

Appearance: Marbolelones are small and have silky, short-cropped fur coats that can range from most every color, but is usually the color of the home they are born into. Kits are born pure heavenly white, and change in one week to their true color. The best way to control the change is to always have one color by the kit, most often surrounding the kit until the change is done. Eye coloring and nail coloring is purely hereditary, often in the range of human eyes, though their pupils are the slits of cat eyes. Their legs are slightly longer than their arms, shaping their main body like a kangaroo. They can also jump like a kangaroo thanks to the strength in their lower legs. Like a monkey, though, they have opposable thumbs on hands and feet, and their tail is twice as long as their body and strong enough so that they often use it to anchor them to their perch. Their heads are round and their faces is like a cat's, except that the ears are longer and their nose protrudes slightly.

Ask if you want to see the specific marbolelones at hand and if you have any questions. When given a marbolelone, you play it, etc.
