I guess I do not share your paranoia. If you and your ilk ever have your way and manage to disarm the general population, we would have a problem.

Our view of “Big Brother” seems to part when it comes to what we consider invasions of privacy. I do not do anything that warrants suspicion so I have no worries about “ease-dropping” on my telephone (BTW if you use a cordless or cell phone you are broadcasting anyway), email or tracking my banking records. There is nothing to see and I have to believe the majority of Americans are pretty dull characters in this regard. I will grant you that these powers could be abused and in the past they in fact have. Given the scope of these measures employed by the government, I doubt they spend much time peeking in on Joe average when there are far greater threats to be found and so little manpower to delegate these tasks to. The argument becomes one of possibilities rather than probabilities. It also depends on what you view as the greater evil, a President whom you despise or a terrorist threat which has already killed thousands within out borders and many more throughout the rest of the world. While I believe President Bush to be on the wrong path in many areas, I believe he is on the correct path when dealing with terrorist threats here and abroad. I have said and I will say again, we are NOT operating in a manor that will shorten our presence in Iraq primarily because we are playing to nicely. It goes hand-in-hand with our being too concerned with world opinion. Similar instances preceded World War Two and we know our history.
