I am a firm believer in first amendment rights. That being said, I am also believe that if you are going to force the manufacturers of automobiles, guns, drain cleaner, fertilizer, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, cigarettes, appliances and clothing to include warning labels on their products, there is no harm in putting them on records which have lyrics which might be objectionable to some or inappropriate for children. We place labels on items to alert us or warn us of their dangers or risks, there by giving us information vital to the correct use of an item and if that item is appropriate for children to use unsupervised. We have had a ratings system for movies in place for years, a TV ratings system which employs programmable chips to prevent our children from watching content which we do not approve and we prohibit selling cigarettes and alcoholic beverages to minors.
Where is the problem with a ratings system, which is properly administered and just how does that infringe upon freedom of speech?
