Fargo Freezewire

Freeze Franchise Firsts

by Lenny Bailey

Freezewire -- Fargo, ND --
This has been a interesting season in the FIFL, and a remarkable one for the Fargo Freeze fans. With the division hotly contested and past leaders falling about both conferences, Fargo, for the first time, find themselves in the thick of things late into the season. This seems like a good opportunity to review some of the firsts for this franchise.

Franchise Firsts:

- Winning 7 games.

- Winning more than 1 road game (3 so far).

- Ending the season .500 or better (7 wins ensures at least .500).

Since there are still outstanding items to be decided, the following list may have items that do not come to fruition. Only time will tell.

Possible Franchise Firsts:

- Most Division wins.

- Most Conference wins.

- Most Home wins.

- Most Point scored.

- First 1000 yd Rusher

- First playoff berth.

When asked about the teams rise, Freeze GM John Murphy said, "When I took over as the Freeze GM before the 2003 season I wanted to make gradual improvements on our way to the FIFL Championship. The first goal I set was to end the season with a .500 or better record. We failed in that goal last season and so, further changes were made. It looks like those changes, primarily offensive scheme and a youth movement in player selection, have done just that."

On the question of Fargo's playoff chances the Freeze GM replied, "With the tight division race we are in now, and the way our schedule plays out, we know that we have to finish the season strong to make the playoffs. If we lose the wrong game of the final 3 we could find ourselves eliminated, so our best chance to make the playoffs is to win all 3 of the remaining games."

Should lead to an interesting couple of weeks for FIFL fans.
