It’s Week 13 of the 2004 FIFL Season. Springfield, Black Hills and Fargo all have 8-4 records going into these last 2 weeks of games. Springfield has the unenviable task of playing both Black Hills and Fargo in those last 2 games in their quest for their second division title in 3 years.

In Week 10, the Slayers took the Machine to OT in Black Hills but could not capture a win as they lost 26-20. It was the typical hard fought, ‘leave everything on the field’ type of game these 2 teams are used to battling in. The stars for both teams played well and both teams moved the ball effectively against the opposing defense.

This week, the game is in Springfield where the Slayers are undefeated this season at 6-0. However, this team is not relying on their home record to beat the Machine. Springfield knows this will be another very tough game and that a victory against the Machine solidifies their chances at winning the division. It would then come down to their game on the road in Fargo in Week 14. If the Slayers could defeat the Freeze on their home turf then Springfield will have claimed the division crown.

When asked about the upcoming game, Slayers star HB Anthony Simmons replied, “Black Hills has become THE rival for us. We took them to OT on their field and that makes us feel good about our chances on our own turf. It’s going to be a war! We have a few guys that are nicked and we lost Mo for the rest of the season, which definitely hurts us. Mo and Willie C were a double threat for us at the TE position. But, we’ve beaten this team before…we’ve just got to go out and play and give it 120%. I have confidence in my teammates and our coaches to get the job done.”

Week 13, Slayers-Machine…don’t miss this one!!
