Subject: Inaugural Season in Austin, TX

With the draft done, training camp coming to a close and the entire team signed for the season, the excitement in Austin, TX is reaching a peak for their new team, the Austin Knights!

The Knights, moving during the off-season from Provo, Utah look to rebound from an unaccustomed mediocre season of 7-7. The hope is that the move will spark new enthusiasm to step up the level of play. They have plenty of weapons and a new outlook from GM, Ian Verhaegen to get the job done.

All-star QB, Gary Porter returns for yet another season and coming off a season in which he performed above the rest of the team, despite rumors that youngster Scooter Molander would get the nod. His primary target is WR Mercury Hayes who led the league in receiving yards and was named to his first all-star game. If Hayes keeps up his level of play, the air game should have plenty of punch.

Elsewhere on the offensive side, look for FB Frank Leatherwood to step up to a starting roll and HB Tom Pettithomm to take the place of Brennan Casey as the backup for perennial starter Elijah Raphael.

While Austin invested highly in defensive picks in the 2005 draft, look for the same group of starters as last year. With the draft however, the depth is better and with an emphasis on fundamentals training in this years training camp, the coaching staff has high hopes for a much improved road record from last years 1-6, blamed mostly on tired out defense.

Congratulations to Austin for joining the ranks of the FIFL and best of luck to their Knights.
