Dateline Baton Rouge:

Springfield (8-6) at Black Hills (10-4)

SPR offense 9th 96.9 rush - [8th] / 232.6 pass - [11th]
defense 2nd 75.5 rush - [2nd] / 234.9 pass - [9th]
scoring 20.6 for - [9th] / 18.3 against - [5th]
---------------------------------------------------------
BLK offense 6th 126.9 rush - [2nd] / 208.3 pass - [15th]
defense 4th 82.9 rush - [5th] / 230.4 pass - [6th]
scoring 21.6 for - [6th] / 16.4 against - [2nd]

Springfield assed out Black Hills in a controversial decision for the division title last season… Black Hills made sure they reclaimed their accustomed slot this season. We get the feeling that sentiment carries over to this play off game. Line set at Black Hills – 2 ˝.

Texas (8-6) at Louisiana (10-3-1) at

TEX offense 3rd 82.0 rush - [12th] / 257.9 pass - [3rd]
defense 17th 119.6 rush - [17th] / 248.1 pass - [15th]
scoring 21.9 for - [2nd] / 21.7 against - [14th]
---------------------------------------------------------
LOU offense 1st 135.1 rush - [1st] / 243.0 pass - [8th]
defense 3rd 70.1 rush - [1st] / 241.4 pass - [12th]
scoring 22.9 for - [1st] / 17.8 against - [3rd]

Last week the Terminators invaded Louisiana and played intense smash mouth football. They forced more fumbles in that game than the Beast had for the whole season… and blocked a punt in the Beast end zone that very well could have been a TD in their favor (they still got a safety on the play.) Texas has improved immeasurably under new management. They have talent and have learned how to use it. Louisiana proved its’ pedigree to win the game in OT… but the message sent by the savage Terminator play served notice to the entire league… they are for real. Round 2 happens this week. Louisiana prematurely alerted they are in a play off mode, fought back admirably to ensure the W. Expect the Beast to go tit for tat for the severe pounding they took last week. We expect Beast strengths to overcome the determined Texas onslaught. It will NOT be a gimme. Watch Texas QB Monte Christo (Pro Bowl starting QB and record holder for TD passes in a season) to test the #3 rated Beast defense. He has to be successful, because the Beast run D is the best in the league. Texas has excellent special teams potential, which always affects play off games. Louisiana built this squad for play off competition and should win here, but Texas is fully capable of pulling of the upset. Line set at Louisiana –1 ˝.

Wichita (9-5) at Portland (9-5)

WCH offense 4th 110.9 rush - [4th] / 225.1 pass - [13th]
defense 10th 78.1 rush - [3rd] / 246.1 pass - [14th]
scoring 21.6 for - [4th] / 18.7 against - [7th]
---------------------------------------------------------
POR offense 13th 81.9 rush - [13th] / 240.1 pass - [9th]
defense 8th 89.3 rush - [7th] / 233.4 pass - [8th]
scoring 19.9 for - [11th] / 18.4 against - [6th]

Tough call. We applaud the 1st ever Portland visit to FIFL post season play. Wichita has been knocking on the door forever. Expect the Wichita run offense to chew up the Portland defense, control the clock and emerge victorious here. The Warlords offensive line is tailor built for this type of game. IF QB Higgs breaks out huge, (HB Marquette Smith may come up huge here) the Prowlers have a chance. Will Wichita revert to late season fade mode? Will QB Albert Higgs work his magic? LOTS of questions here. Line set at Wichita –1/2.

Madison (7-7) at Dayton (12-2)

MAD offense 10th 92.4 rush - [10th] / 236.4 pass - [10th]
defense 7th 91.1 rush - [8th] / 227.1 pass - [5th]
scoring 20.9 for - [8th] / 20.6 against - [11th]
---------------------------------------------------------
DAY offense 7th 124.4 rush - [3rd] / 207.9 pass - [16th]
defense 15th 80.1 rush - [4th] / 260.0 pass - [17th]
scoring 21.6 for - [5th] / 16.2 against - [1st]

Logic says Dayton, hands down. Madison has come on late this season, and claimed the final wild card slot in a bizarre sequence of events? We feel they deserve to be in the post season tourney, and since their rivalry with Dayton is intense, have a chance. HOWEVER, Mick Jagger mimicked an old blues man line: “… I used to love her, but it’s all over mow…” Dayton just too strong. Line set at Dayton – 4 ˝.
