Subject: Smash Fall to the Champs

The Steel Valley Smash came into Dayton with one thing on their mind. Winning. They had Dayton in a little bit of trouble, too, leading 7-3 in Dayton at the halftime break.

"Drakeford is a very good player. He'll make you pay if you don't bother to cover him," Smash coach Dan Jackson said after the game. Why? Drakeford scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to set the pace for a 30-20 Dayton win in Week 2.

New starting QB Melvin Hill (from Mississippi) went 27/51 for 260 yards, 3 TD and an INT in his first start in a couple of years. "It felt good to get back out on the playing field, now I need to start playing better to get this team back on top of things," Hill said after the game.

The Steel Valley Smash might be 1-1 and with the whole Valley beaming a bit, but there are some issues. The Smash are 5/31 on third downs, only a 16% completion rate. On offense, the Smash are only getting 3.6 yards per play. And passing, the Smash aren't even at 50% completions, going 40/81 so far.

The host the perennial playoff team, the Louisiana Bayou Beast in Week 3. "They've had a rough go at it with a few new linemen, the run game hasn't been up to par yet in Louisiana, but they've always given us trouble, so we have to give it 100%," Jackson said about the Beast.
