Subject: Lions and Tigers and TIES! OH MY!

Lou Reed opined on the WILD CHILD album “… the life if the theatre is certainly fraught with many chills and spills…” Such is the sentiment after week one of the 2003 FIFL season, especially where the Louisiana Beast is concerned. (GEEPERZ, I wish you guys actually knew what I was referring to… this is wonderful classic ROCK! I think the tune was named Lorraine) The Beast traveled to Green Bay and played to A TIE??? One of two things is happening here… Louisiana is not as good as advertised, OR the Bombers are much improved. We believe it is a combination… both teams adjusting to roster changes… Green Bay seemed more eager to prove their off-season roster moves will pay dividends this season. Regardless, it was a ferocious game. QB Josh Luedtke, no stranger to the Gulf Division wars, wore out the Beast defense. The Beast offense continued its’ perplexing inability to get into the end zone. Of course this was a road game, so perhaps Louisiana was at a disadvantage. But the bigger story is how Green Bay hung with the FIFL champions through 5 quarters of intense football. For now, they have reason to crow… they done good. WR Deboer TORE UP on of the better secondaries in the league. The Green Bay defense proved up to the task as well. This game will be an excellent springboard for this down trodden team… as in they can play with ANYBODY this season as they are! Kudos to GM Bryan Higgins of Green Bay. His is a team to be reckoned with this season?

Week 2, Louisiana makes a minor adjustment… CB Kevin K Marshall moves to CB2, Bryan Birmingham reverts to CB3… Birmingham handles the run better, but it’s obvious we need support for the passing attack. Spring Valley brings a new challenge to the Bayou Dome this week: 196 rushing yards last week. Hopefully, we can stem the tide and earn our 1st victory. Every team appears nervous this season due to increased player development… except Utah… they march to the beat a different drummer… quite successfully! Louisiana has a history of shutting down the run game. Hopefully, this trend continues. See y’all on the field Thursday!
