Subject: Week 8 Up Next!

4 days of sporadic labor still not enough time… wish we could cite star players accomplishments etc… oh, well…

Last season there was a definite `feel’ as to who had personnel and PPPs for any game day and those who didn’t. That feel is mightily skewed this season. The most excellent draft, FA pickups and to some extent PPPs and injuries have altered the bookie’s toil to set up lines that will ensure the house cleans up in any given week. Regular office pools that disregard the spread and depend on straight up who beats whom made some coin last week. Serious betters that play the spread took a slight hit. The second half of the FIFL season offers no security to the spread betters this season… there are too many teams capable of “Cinderella story, out of no where…” that are capable of knocking off the top notch teams, especially vs the spread. We continue to handicap cap games as we see them… and have a plus average over 2+ seasons in doing so. Here goes for this week:

OR… Here’s a TV Guide to week 8 games in the FIFL?

Utah (5-2) at Portland (4-3)

GAME OF THE WEEK! Utah is on a roll, may be too strong for Portland? #1 vs #2 in the division? Intriguing match up. We feel the Prowlers shut down the Rattlers running game, control the Rattlers passing attack, get enough offense at home to derail the Utah winning streak and set themselves up for a late season showdown for a play off slot. [Ian’s release from detention not withstanding?] This goes against our normal grain, since Utah is due for road win, Portland is due for a home loss, making Utah a 6+ favorite, but we have a tingling in our funny bone here. Line set at Portland – 1.

Colorado (4-3) at Black Hills (5-2)

COL offense 6th 107.0 rush - [7th] / 239.4 pass - [8th]
defense 3rd 106.1 rush - [11th] / 189.1 pass - [2nd]
scoring 20.4 for - [9th] / 17.3 against - [3rd]
---------------------------------------------------------
BLK offense 17th 118.1 rush - [4th] / 184.9 pass - [18th]
defense 8th 90.9 rush - [7th] / 240.7 pass - [9th]
scoring 21.6 for - [7th] / 18.3 against - [5th]

Can Black Hills get back on track? Colorado’s `D’, down from #1 to #3 ranking, but the numbers are so close that’s irrelevant. Black Hills rarely loses at home. The loss of CB3 Hurd disturbing, but not devastating. The Wildcats spunky and seemingly much more dedicated this season, so don’t count ‘em out. WELL worth the price of admission. Gotta go with the home team here… line set at Black Hills –2.

Wichita (4-3) at Springfield (5-2)

WCH offense 4th 141.1 rush - [1st] / 219.1 pass - [14th]
defense 5th 68.3 rush - [2nd] / 245.6 pass - [12th]
scoring 22.3 for - [3rd] / 19.6 against - [8th]
---------------------------------------------------------
SPR offense 8th 107.7 rush - [6th] / 226.7 pass - [13th]
defense 9th 89.0 rush - [5th] / 245.9 pass - [13th]
scoring 19.6 for - [13th] / 16.6 against - [2nd]

Repeat of last season? Wichita wins? Wichita needs this one bad to stay in contention for a playoff slot. Their rush game may well wear out the Springfield `D’ and push them over the edge. Springfield smarting from last week’s road loss, look to rebound at home. Line set at Wichita – 2.

Madison (3-4) at Louisiana (5-1-1) at

MAD offense 2nd 109.4 rush - [5th] / 258.4 pass - [5th]
defense 7th 86.7 rush - [4th] / 239.7 pass - [8th]
scoring 21.9 for - [5th] / 22.0 against - [13th]
---------------------------------------------------------
LOU offense 1st 139.4 rush - [2nd] / 233.6 pass - [9th]
defense 6th 61.9 rush - [1st] / 254.1 pass - [15th]
scoring 22.6 for - [1st] / 16.4 against - [1st]

Can the Beast keep pace? Madison defense rebounding nicely of lately, team is out to prove early season woes were an anomaly. The Mad Dogs may pull off the upset this week. They have the personnel to compete with any team… fast bruiser RBs, speed DBs. The loss of LB Robert Nock, (D-4, hyper extended knee) hurts. Louisiana needs to take advantage of that loss, but that may not happen until late in the game. Look for this one to go down to the wire. The Beast EN and DI should pull this one out at home IF they can keep the score close until then. Special teams and turnovers loom large. Line set at Louisiana – 2 1/2.

Mobile (3-4) at Texas (3-4)

MOB offense 10th 64.4 rush - [18th] / 268.1 pass - [2nd]
defense 12th 89.4 rush - [6th] / 257.9 pass - [16th]
scoring 20.7 for - [8th] / 21.1 against - [10th]
---------------------------------------------------------
TEX offense 12th 78.1 rush - [14th] / 248.4 pass - [6th]
defense 13th 114.1 rush - [16th] / 233.3 pass - [6th]
scoring 20.3 for - [10th] / 21.0 against - [9th]

Round 2 this season? Late trades may have helped Mobile for later in the season, but it takes time to assimilate new pieces to the puzzle. IF Texas, as rumored, have adjusted their PPPs (as in the coaching staff has a clue now?) they will be MONSTER tough. Combination of Seagull re-organization and Terminators personnel lead us to set the line here at Texas – 1.

Lincoln (1-6) at Honolulu (2-5)

LIN offense 11th 102.9 rush - [8th] / 226.7 pass - [12th]
defense 14th 112.6 rush - [14th] / 235.0 pass - [7th]
scoring 18.7 for - [15th] / 22.3 against - [14th]
---------------------------------------------------------
HON offense 16th 89.4 rush - [12th] / 215.4 pass - [16th]
defense 1st 95.9 rush - [8th] / 190.3 pass - [3rd]
scoring 17.1 for - [17th] / 23.0 against - [16th]

Who wants it more? Lincoln dealt with Fargo last week, and that was the statement game we’ve expected from this squad. Traveling to Honolulu is tough… the wahine are compelling beyond compare. Even lightning no match for those hypnotic pelvic gyrations! We salute Lincoln for their initial W, but Hurricanes ranked #1 on `D’. Line set at Honolulu – 5.

Mississippi (4-3) at Fargo (2-5)

MIS offense 3rd 93.1 rush - [11th] / 267.9 pass - [3rd]
defense 17th 127.0 rush - [18th] / 252.3 pass - [14th]
scoring 22.3 for - [2nd] / 21.7 against - [12th]
---------------------------------------------------------
FGO offense 13th 97.6 rush - [10th] / 227.9 pass - [11th]
defense 4th 117.6 rush - [17th] / 192.6 pass - [4th]
scoring 20.1 for - [12th] / 22.4 against - [15th]

Very few teams work harder than Fargo to get it done week in and week out… welcome to the unpredictable FIFL! That’s why it was somewhat surprising they fell to Lincoln last week. Mississippi just too strong this season for Fargo to deal with. BE ADVISED: FARGO WILL NOT BE AMONG THE DOWNTRODEN FOR LONG! Line set at Mississippi –4.

Fort Wayne (1-6) at Green Bay (3-3-1) at

FWS offense 5th 71.4 rush - [16th] / 279.0 pass - [1st]
defense 2nd 113.4 rush - [15th] / 179.3 pass - [1st]
scoring 16.9 for - [18th] / 21.4 against - [11th]
---------------------------------------------------------
GBY offense 15th 65.0 rush - [17th] / 246.9 pass - [7th]
defense 18th 101.4 rush - [10th] / 281.9 pass - [17th]
scoring 19.1 for - [14th] / 23.0 against - [17th]

Waterloo this week for Green Bay? Bombers payloads producing nothing but duds of late. Fortunately, they are at home vs a Fort Wayne squad that seem to be mailing in negative results B4 games start this season. Line set at Green Bay – 7.

Dayton (6-1) at Steel Valley (2-5)

DAY offense 7th 122.3 rush - [3rd] / 217.9 pass - [15th]
defense 16th 74.1 rush - [3rd] / 289.1 pass - [18th]
scoring 22.1 for - [4th] / 17.3 against - [4th]
---------------------------------------------------------
STV offense 18th 99.0 rush - [9th] / 194.0 pass - [17th]
defense 15th 109.6 rush - [13th] / 244.7 pass - [11th]
scoring 17.9 for - [16th] / 24.7 against - [18th]

Please… mother said she had no chance, no chance… HEARTBREAKER, HEARTBREAKER… Dayton is a STRONG candidate to capture the division crown. Steel Valley improving but need to play outa their heads to even stay in this one. Line set at Dayton – 9.
