After a long buffeting by storms and seas the Milesians beached their sturdy galleys in Kerry, and, according to legend, engaged the Tuatha De Dananns on the Sliabh Mis Mountain.

They defeated the De Dananns amid great slaughter and not before their brave Queen Scota, widow of Milesius, had fallen mortally wounded.

Having buried her with all the honours of war and, after their custom, upright in her grave, with her face to the rising sun, they pushed on northwards, and at Tailteann fought the final battle which made them masters of the country.

Ireland, which they called Scota, to honour their dead Queen, was divided between the twin sons of Milesius, Heber and Heremon. Later a dispute arose between the two brothers as to who should be ruler of all Ireland. In the battle that followed at Geashill, Heber was slain and Heremon was crowned Ard Ri - High King.
