Subject: Your 'Choice' ?

Perhaps you are amazed at the huge part 'choice' plays in today's world? But that is no accident. Allow me to tell you a little about it.

From about the year 1650 many thinkers in Europe began to lose interest in God. They were of the opinion that even if He existed, He didn't really matter, and they stopped worshipping Him.

Life continued much as before, with the number ignoring God gradually increasing. Then along came Freddy Nietzche in the late 1800s. Freddy, a German, still has quite a name as a thinker.

"Hey," said Freddy, "if God is dead, gone, then why do you still keep His Commandments?" It hadn't occurred to many until then that without God everything was radically changed.

"OK", they said, "God is dead, and we're top of the heap, so that makes us the supreme beings. We make the rules from here on in." But if these smart guys no longer took orders from God, why the heck would they take them from other humans? get the drift, Mac? "I'm as good as you are, so don't tell me what I am to do," became the general attitude. Who, then, were to make the new rules? OK, Mac, let us have it!

Now all that was a very big problem for the 'right to choose' crowd. The came to the conclusion that 'choice' was the neat answer.... yes, very good, let each human have his own opinion, choose for himself what was right or wrong, good or bad.

It would be cool, or in, from then on to be in favour of 'choice' or 'the right to choose'. Respect for other people's choices became the supreme moral value or obligation. And that meant God's commandments were out, not cool.

And then as the 20th century went on, 'choice' became a powerful force in Western culture. Thanks to the 'new' strategy, choice now means that laws drawn up under Christian influence are being torn down.

If a man abandons his wife and kids, thats OK, if it's his 'choice', so divorce must be legalised. If a sick or depressed woman wants to end it all, OK, its her 'choice' so 'mercy' killing (murder) is permitted.

Two men want to 'marry', nothing wrong with that if it's their 'choice'. They want to adopt children, again it's their 'choice'. Another man wants to have a few bits cut off and be regarded as a woman, please don't try to stop him, if it's his 'choice'.

A mother wants rid of her unwanted, innocent, unborn baby, she proclaims that it has no inherent right to life, and it's her 'choice' into the bargain. In each case the law is changed to suit the 'choice'. Pretty smart thinking eh?

In this cultural revolution, where anything goes, any person or institution portrayed as limiting choice become the enemy. And heading the list are parents.

But then, you know, weakening the family and undermining the role of parents gives kids more choice. That means more emphasis on "children's rights", and the use of schools to counteract the values of the home.

And when the Church calls us to a higher vision of life and reminds us of God's commandements, the pro-choice rebels are deeply resentfull.

The twisted version of human 'freedom' has created a most crazy world. Let us remember that true freedom is the liberty to do what is right, not liberty to do what we like! So, put that in your pipes and smoke it!
