Date Posted: 12:53:12 12/19/02 Thu Why does Pobal na h-Eireann support the restoration of the Tridentine Mass? Pobal na h-Eireann is an Irish Catholic movement whose allegiance and loyalty is to the Irish nation, which embraces the cause of Irish freedom. It is our wish that the Irish nation be free, strong and protected from foreign interference in Irish internal affairs. We believe that the Irish nation cannot be strong, in the true meaning of the word, unless the Catholic Church is strong. Many young Catholics wonder why some of their elders prefer the Tridentine Mass and make so much fuss about it. This is not surprising as it is hard for any individual to feel real concern for a cause of which he has had no direct experience. Young Catholics have been deprived of their birthright for a mess of ecumenical pottage. The Catholic tradition has been to hold fast to what has been handed down and look upon any novelty with the utmost suspicion. Every Catholic must feel a personal love for those sacred rites when they come to him with all the authority of the centuries. Any rude handling of such forms must cause deep pain to those who know and use them. For they come to them from God through Christ and through the Church. It is right and fitting that Irish Catholics should feel a particular attachment to the form of Mass which our martyr-priests celebrated and for which so many of them gave their lives. The Second Vatican Council, in its Liturgy Constitution, commanded that all lawfully acknowledged rites within the Church should be preserved and fostered in every way. Sadly, the wishes of the Council Fathers have been largely ignored. Our Irish Catholic ancestors risked their lives and liberty by attending Holy Mass at the Mass rocks during the Penal Days. We remember them with love, respect and pride. We want to be able to attend Mass in the same rite that our ancesters attended. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
