When they first started running BB, I saw it as a sort of psychological experiment and a true voyeristic opportunity, not as just a prolonged game show.
I can see both approaches. This is more along the lines of the game show concept. I think having competing teams and harsher deprivation for the losers could work to increase stress and thereby a certain kind of entertainment.
I also wonder what would happen if we left all the houseguests in the house, no one voted out. All to be paid equal amounts or pro-rated amounts if they left early. They could have competitions, with rewards or deprivations. But more importantly we could see personalities, relationships and antagonisms created and dismantled over time. Maybe they or the audience could vote for a best housemate or houseguest in the end, with a bonus to that winner.
The recent Frontier House program on PBS followed more along a format of keeping all the people and watching how they dealt with each other, the elements and their environment. It had it's slow moments, but with the right format and cast, I think BB could be an interesting show about human interaction. We have enough reality TV game show formats.
