I was in the grocery one time and witnessed an irritable child crying because his young mother wouldn't buy him a candy bar. He fussed and fumed and finally yelled at her that he was "...gonna tell Grandma on you!!" She said, "Go right ahead, but you're not getting the candy."

She looked so outdone and frustrated---obviously having picked up son from the day care after a tedious day at work.

We both walked out to the parking lot at the same time and our cars were next to each other. As I placed my groceries into the back seat and she hoisted Jr. into his car seat kicking and screaming, I said, "You were a good mother today."

She looked up at me, stunned, and said, "Thank you so much. I needed to hear that. Sometimes it's hard."

I agreed, got in my car, backed up to leave, and saw her smile appreciatively as she motored along.

It made my day to make hers.
