Subject: What Bush knew about 9/11

I should preface my comments here by saying that I am not a big fan of George Bush, but then most who post with me already know that.

First, I don't really believe that Bush or any other president who had a creditable warning with sufficient specificity for the likelihood of what happened on 9/11 would intentionally not take action. Having said that it seems quite likely that the information that should have set off alarms in the minds of the administration either never reached high enough on the bureaucratic ladder, were not taken seriously enough, were not sufficiently as specific as needed, were not understood for what they fortold or were simply overlooked in the tangle of setting-up the new administration.

It does seem that the information on persons connected to 9/11, on odd flight training activities and possible hi-jackings came out in memos issued between May and July of 2001. So blaming it on Clinton's general Mideast policies and terrorist policies has no value in the process of trying to plug up the holes in the system.

Right now the Bush administration is so hung up on how this effects his political image and on whether he'll get blamed, that he can't see what we need and want on this issue. I don't really want to hang him out to dry. I don't blame him for 9/11 or Clinton, or Israel or us. I blame the people that did it. What we need now is to figure out how are system worked or in this case didn't work to protect us and fix what we can for the future.

We managed to fight WWII and investigate Pearl Harbor simultaniously, we can fight terrorist and investigate 9/11 simultaneously. If we want to have a snowball's chance in hell of stopping the next major attack, we better start plugging the holes in the investigation, identification and response dam. Something is broke and we need to fix it. If a few egos and political images get bruised along the way, so be it.

We spent 8 years and 70 million dollars investigating the firing of 5 people in the travel office, a piddly land deal in Arkansas and the president's sex life. Why can't we afford a little time and money, not running a witch hunt on Bush, but finding out what if anything could have been done better to anticipate that attack and thereby future attacks.

And another thing, where do the Bush cronies get off saying this isn't an issue for the Congress to look into. This is just the kind of issue they should be looking into in our behalf. They are hired to represent us and I can't think of an issue that could be more critical to us right now. Has anyone at the White House heard of the balance of power concept?
