She has a wonderful husband and he will help. He is very protective of her. They were high school sweethearts. His dad was the fire chief and hers was a police captain. She lost her dad when she was in her teens. It was hard on her and made her very close with her mom. She is an only child. She is 60 now and her mom was 90. I think it is just realizing she is the matriarch of the family now and that she has no parents no siblings to turn to that is over-welming her.

Her husbands parents are gone too and his brother. He has just one sister and no brothers left, so I think both of them are feeling the weight of being at the head of their families now. Her husband is Irish Catholic, although she converted to Catholism when they married, her family was staunch German Lutheran. There is a strong heritage of family unity and commitment from both sides, so now they stand as the patriarch and matriarch of both families.

I think the lonliness of having her last parent pass away along with the strong sense that the mantel has been passed is playing with her emotions.
