But then there are those moments when I am tempted to at least let them visit somewhere for spell.

The first time I ever let my daughter go somewhere overnight without me was a trip to my foster sister's. I think she was 4 or 5, but not in kindergarten yet. They picked her up and started home. They lived about an hour's drive away. Before they could even get her home, I was homesick for her. I kept watching the time and had the phone ringing as they walked in the door. Then I had to pretend there was some good reason to call. My sister saw right through me, but my daughter was fooled. I didn't really want to alarm her and get her homesick for me anyway, I just had to hear her sweet little voice.
