I think a lot of people don't look at the whole problem or what solving one problem could cause.

Look at us Americans, we've not plagued with the problems of the third world. We have clean indoor hot and cold water, indoor lavatories, readily accessible basic medical care and pharmaceuticals, ready access to plenty of food, the list goes on and on.

Are we perfect or even close? No, of course not. One thing that stands out at the top of my mind about this issue. We have all the things people in other countries want, but we've traded some issues for others. Instead of dealing with famine, we're dealing with the health problems of relatively sedentary lifestyles and obesity.

But you know, I wonder who these people are. What are the conditions in which they live and how they got there.

I believe it was crisis Ethiopian Sam Kinison spoke about not sending them food but suitcases. "Move!" was his answer. Rather simplistic, but he had a point. They were plagued with terrible famine. They had no food. We sent them food. Was that the answer? Nope. Tons of the food sat on airport tarmac going bad because we couldn't get the food to the people who needed it. It was being hijack by rebels (or some armed militia, i can't remember).

So sending them food wasn't really the answer. Sam's solution, sending them to the food, would have been better.

...or maybe not. Who knows.
