Subject: An Invitation

Please forward this invitation to your friends and colleagues. If you are in NY, you
are cordially invited to attend a special Veterans History Project D-Day program
aboard the USS Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum on June 6, 2002. The program,
produced in partnership between the Library of Congress and the American
Association of Retired Persons (AARP), is to celebrate the service of
America's veterans. It will also officially launch the Veterans History
Project, a project to collect and preserve oral histories from World Wars I
and II and the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars as well as from veterans
from all eras. Guest speakers include Librarian of Congress James H.
Billington, AARP President James Parkel, elected officials and well-known
celebrities. The program begins at 11 a.m. and guests are asked to arrive by
10 a.m. The USS Intrepid is docked at Pier 86, 12th Avenue and West 46th
Street, New York City, and her permanent exhibits and decks will be open to
guests throughout the day. For more information or to reserve a seat, please
call Nancy Mitchell at 202-707-0932.
