One of hubby's cousins passed this along.....

This website was listed in today's Parade magazine that comes with the Fargo Forum (and other Sunday papers). I
haven't finished looking at it but I thought it interesting enough to share. The article (entitled "To Save the Earth,
start at home") in the Parade said there are recipes for homemade cleaning products that are safer than the
store-bought chemicals. I was supposed to submit my recycle-able (sp?) birthday card in the local contest in April and I
was too busy & forgot. A good friend works for the county hazardous waste dept. & she thought it was a pretty
good way to save paper (the card that keeps going & going & going, and uses recycled paper to boot); I figure
every signature just adds to the greeting. Rather than buying new wood trim boards I am stripping the original
(circa.1923) ones & reusing them (and wondering in which decade some of those gawdawful colors were painted!).
I also prefer 1/4 c. white vinegar/1 gallon water/1 drop of dish soap over store-bot sprays for windows & old
newspapers to dry to a shine (makes the glass appear invisible! No kidding!!! Hard on the birds tho, thump!) A
hint I read about - concerning washing windows - is to wipe vertical inside and horizontal outside - then you can tell
which side has any streaks that need a touch up. I think the Heloise website also has some recipes for homemade
cleaners (I saw her on Home Matters, weekday mornings on Discovery, where she said they tested the germ killing
power of vinegar to store-bot disinfectants and they were about the same!!!) I have used white vinegar on my
counters (full strenth) to deter ants in the summer time; it works! Hope you find the website useful.
