It's been years since I read that poem, but how true it is. I sometimes think our transient, throw-away society misses forming those strong attachments that lead to having a true sense of home and hearth like those of previous generations had. My parents had lived in 15 different houses from the time I was born until I moved away from home. My grandparents lived in the same house for 52 years. I felt such an attachment to their house and such a sense of comfort and safety when I was there. My parents bought the house I live in now the year I went away to college, which is 30 years ago. I bought it 14 years ago. My dad died here, both my children were raised here. Even though I don't like everything about it's design and quality of construction, I think it would pain me to move away from here. It has really become a home.
