The 2002 Atlantic hurricane season could see an above-average
number of tropical storms and up to eight hurricanes forecasters
at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on
May 20, 2002. NOAA predicted between nine and 13 tropical
storms will form during the season, which runs from June 1 to
Nov. 30. Last year, 15 tropical storms and nine hurricanes formed
in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Hurricane Erin is seen off the east
coast of the U.S. and Canada in this September 13, 2001 satellite
